Welcome to 9th grade Honors English! This is my first year teaching at Southwest High School and I couldn't be happier to be a part of the tremendous learning community here. Before coming here to SWHS I spent two years teaching 7th and 8th grade IB Literature and Language at Anwatin Middle School here in MPS. I received both my English B.A. and Communication Arts and Literature License (grades 5-12) from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities.
I discovered my love for learning in high school, where a couple of amazing and dedicated teachers showed me that education is a way to observe, unpack, and engage with the world around me. They made learning culturally relevant to my everyday life and made learning an active process instead of a passive one. I was, and continue to be drawn to SWHS because of the energy, professional staff, incredible students, and dedication to both rigorous and culturally relevant academics. Actively becoming apart of the SWHS culture is something that truly excites me for this coming school year! Last but not least, outside of school I am interested in reading, cycling, political advocacy, baking (bread is my specialty), and spending time with family. I have been married to my partner, Megan, for 4 years. Megan also works in MPS at Richard Green Central Park Elementary School. We have lived in Minneapolis for eight years so far and currently live within the Victory Neighborhood of North Minneapolis. Please feel free to reach out to me throughout the year with any questions or concerns! |
